If you read my column, you know I believe. And, if you didn’t read my column, well, I believe. I’m not always sure what I believe, but I believe. There are too many songs centered around the theme, “Believe.” I could easily find dozens. I would like to propose a small token for such a large subject, provided it doesn’t cause me problems with the wonderful editors of The Wild Word. If you have a better choice of a song for “Believe” add it in the comments, and I will have a listen. Also, as a bonus option you can vote for the song in my column. Anyway, on to the list. – TIM CLARK

Two Fingers by Jethro Tull

I think this song is about the great beyond, but, the message is so vague as to almost universal.

Somebody Let the Devil Out by Popa Chubby

Nothing heavenly about this song, except the guitar playing of the big man, Popa Chubby.

Signs by The Five Man Electrical Band

Perhaps the most spiritual song I’ve ever heard.

Red Right Hand by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

It would be easy to pick five songs by Nick Cave for this subject, his music is wrapped around beliefs and piety, without being preachy.

Your Flag Decal Won’t Get You into Heaven Anymore by John Prine

As true now as when it was written, John Prine may have been a reluctant, humble, self deprecating clairvoyant. He was definitely a national treasure.

Tim Clark lives in Columbus, OH. He is an employee, a husband, a father and a blogger. You can see his blog here, Life Explained.  He loves classic rock, and talks about it too often. He loves to write and read, and he doesn’t mind coffee and a little bourbon, either.
