POETRY
Brother Wasp
A wounded wasp inspires my boundless
sympathy—I gently tug his tiny feet
from the trap of screen-door weave.
His brother, however, flies straight in,
careening—too close!—
to mine own precious head.
This one must go: not released,
but driven like a bandit
from my contradictory, human home.
After a rather extended and varied second childhood in New Orleans, Matt Dennison’s work has appeared in Rattle, Bayou Magazine, Redivider, Natural Bridge, The Spoon River Poetry Review and Cider Press Review, among others. He has also made short films with Michael Dickes, Swoon, and Marie Craven.
