POETRY
From Them, To You, Grandpa
I told you
I think somebody
hurt me once
when I was little,
but you said I was crazy,
and I believed you
for a while.
Then one day,
I recognized in a photo: me,
on that couch,
with those worn pillows,
and ratty blankets,
all placed on shag carpet,
sitting across
from you.
Brit Barnhouse is a writing studies student at the University of Washington Tacoma. When not writing about the ever-blurred lines between animals and humans, she can be found giving her dogs belly rubs or tossing treats out to the neighborhood crows.
This is beautifully precise.
This made my heart beat hard during and after reading it.
