POETRY

Rapture
Open window, fluttering curtain rapture,
silent spiral, miracles easy keeper—
cedar spirit centuries mindful fragrance,
heart in its passage.
Angels enter willingly. Bending earthward
they sing their song joyously on this sweet day,
yet I tremble. This is too soon for summons.
Hold me to this day.
Allegra grew up on a farm in Wisconsin where her mother would recite poems as she worked. She has lived in California since 1963. In addition to three chapbooks and two books, she is widely published in journals. She was the first Poet Laureate for the city of Davis. Allegra also performs with the Third Stage dance company and Threshold Singers.
