Oregon Coast
wet sand between my toes,
I see the breakers
as a wild woman
deranged by the immense
mass at her back
she pounds her rush her gush
into the cliffs
the dunes
the reefs
her snarled bonnet of salted gray knots,
chaotic halo of flying wisps
blinds her
blinds us all
blasts of sand and brine
season the bitter spikes of beach grass,
armour verbena’s bright yellow bouquets,
homogenize bits of kelp, oxygen, crab carapace
a rare smile of lucid sunshine,
a brief burst of sanity
of tranquil hush
makes the power
of her rage
rage
rage
all the more wondrous
as I search the beach
for a channel
to this
will.
