RICHARD KING PERKINS II

POETRY
Persistent Figment
You return from the front doorway
just before the resolution of night.
What you know of the world trembles
in this unordinary nocturne
and you reject the stale romance
of inevitable sunrise, expansive and rippling,
allowing you to decide that your thoughts
are moon-gestures reflected from your eyes.
When you later slide back into bed
you notice that I’m nothing more
than a lunar shadow beast, a persistent figment,
the monster as a source of pity
and that despite my otherness
no mountain is high enough to escape me.
